A total of 8,706 project tenders valued at Rs 1,83,237 crore were floated during Q1/FY19. The aggregate value of works proposed through tendering process recorded a jump of 7.89 percent when compared to 7,214 project tenders at a value of Rs 1,69,831 crore floated in Q1/FY18.
Roadways sector saw brisk tendering activities in the first quarter of the current fiscal. Around 34 percent of the total tendered work value was owned by this sector.
In terms of tender value, the Roadways sector saw 31 percent month-on-month growth (Rs 22,304.52 crore; 1,061 tenders) in May 2018 from Rs 16,964.78 crore (985 tenders) in April 2018. The growth trajectory continued further, as tendering process in this sector for the month of June 2018 grew 22.5 percent month-on-month to Rs 27,339.19 crore (923 tenders).
Water Supply ranked second in tendering activities in Q1/FY19. Overall, a total of 1,065 tenders with contract value worth Rs 13,079.7 crore were floated in this quarter. The sector saw 396 tenders worth Rs 4,295.8 crore being floated in April 2018 which grew to 300 tenders worth Rs 5,432.46 crore in May 2018. However, the total tendered value dipped to Rs 3,351.44 crore in June 2018.
Though the Community Infrastructure sector registered a positive trend at the beginning of the FY19, with 270 project tendering worth Rs 13,409.63 crore in April 2018, the tempo could not be retained in the subsequent two months of the quarter. In terms of value, the sector registered a fall of 43 percent month-on-month in May 2018. A total of 386 tenders worth Rs 7,660.74 crore were floated in the month. The trend further slipped by 60 percent month-on-month in June 2018 with 264 project tendering worth Rs 3,035.15 crore.
Slowdown was also witnessed in the Power Distribution sector during the Q1/FY19. The value of work proposed in this sector fell from Rs 3,304.07 crore in April 2018 to Rs 1,479.95 crore in June 2018.
Among the states, Maharashtra continued to be the most tendering state during Q1/FY19. Tenders floated in the state increased by over 63 percent year-on-year in June 2018. During the period, a total of 386 tenders worth Rs 5,079 crore were floated from 237 tenders worth Rs 31,845 in June 2017.
The Public Works Department, Maharashtra, invited majority of the tenders during June 2018. The PWD, Maharashtra, floated 192 tenders worth Rs 2,753.81 crore in the Roadways sector.
Apart from Maharashtra, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal were the top states and accounted for 60 percent of the total project tenders announced across the country.
In all, 2,799 project tenders worth Rs 55,201 crore were published during June 2018. Among the floated tenders, 194 tenders were for providing various consultancy services. The period also witnessed 34 expressions of interest (EoIs) for providing various services and execution of works. Apart from this, 465 tenders were re-invited. Lack of participation forced tender issuing authorities to extend the last date of submission for 479 project tenders and cancellation of around seven tenders.
